Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson had nothing but good things to say about quarterback Baker Mayfield at the team's Organized team Activities on Wednesday.
"He has done some good things," Jackson said of the first draft pick this year by Cleveland. "He obviously is learning the National Football League game, but he is working at it each and every day. He goes in there and gets his reps, and he makes the most of them. As I said before, we drafted a very talented player. Glad that we have him. He works extremely hard. He is competing. He is competing hard."
Jackson said determining Mayfield's reps in practice is a process. The 2017 Heisman Trophy winner at Oklahoma is expected to sit behind Tyrod Taylor, at least at the start of the upcoming season.
"We have got to start him off and get him acclimated to all of this and how it all works through meetings, his teammates, the locker room, being on the field and being coached -- I think all of that," Jackson said.
With that said, Jackson pointed out that talent rules the day.
"(Mayfield) can throw it," he said. "He has a tight spiral. He can fit the ball into tight spaces. He can throw it long. He has all of the arm talent that I think you need to play. I do not think that has ever been a concern of ours at all."
