English forward Harry Kane scored two goals to help Tottenham Hotspur comeback and win against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday in London.
Both of Kane's scores came late in the second half after PSV got a score in the 2nd minute from Luuk de Jong in the 2-1 Group B affair at Wembley Stadium. PSV and Spurs tied their first Group B meeting 2-2 on Oct. 24 in the Netherlands.
Gaston Pereiro assisted the game's opening tally. The Uruguayan sent in a corner kick on that play at the start of the 2nd minute. The ball swung into de Jong, who buried a header into the left side of the net, beating Spurs keeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
That narrow margin stuck until the 78th minute, when Kane scored the equalizer. Substitute Ferando Llorente had the honor of assisting the tying goal. Kane headed a ball into the box on that possession. Llorente brought the ball down and sent a shot pass to Kane, who volleyed the feed into the far post netting to make the score 1-1.
Left back Ben Davies assisted Kane's game-winner in the 89th minute. He hit a cross in from the left corner, as Kane hovered in the box. Kane backed up to track the ball before softly heading it to the right side of the goal. PSV keeper Jeroen Zoet got a late jump on the shot as it beat him into the net.
"Never give up, that's the most important characteristic," Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said, according to the team website.
"It was completely unfair, the [score], during the game because to concede so early increased their belief. But the team was fighting, taking risks and I'm so pleased because we've won the game and we're alive in the competition."
"Now we play Inter, another battle. It will be good to be in that position, still optimistic and believing that we can still go to the next section."
Spurs battle Inter Milan in another group stage match at 3 p.m on Nov. 28 in London. PSV's next group stage test comes against Barcelona at 3 p.m on Nov. 28 in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
